Professional EICR Testing To Ensure Your Building Is Efficient, Safe, And Compliant

At Orion Technical Services, we provide expert EICR testing for businesses and organisations in various sectors. An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is a comprehensive assessment of the safety and compliance of fixed wiring and electrical installations and can help you to:

  • Identify electrical safety hazards, such as defective wiring, missing earthing or bonding, circuit overloads, or potential fire or shock risks.
  • Stay compliant with legal obligations, including the Electricity at Work Regulations (1989) and the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974).
  • Meet insurance requirements to prove that hardwired electrical installations are compliant and safe. Save money by reducing downtime and disrupting business operations by carrying out more extensive repairs.

What IS EICR Testing?

EICR testing is a thorough inspection and testing of an electrical installation by a qualified contractor to ensure it meets current safety standards and regulations. By identifying potential hazards, defects, or areas of non-compliance that could pose a risk of electric shock, fire, or system failure, EICR testing provides you with up-to-date information about the condition of your fixed wire installations.

Where problems are unearthed, you can take immediate action to address them, reducing the risk of downtime and minimising risks to staff, visitors, and service users.

How Often Does EICR Testing Need To Be Completed?

The frequency of EICR testing varies depending on the type of building and its use. High-risk areas should be tested annually, even if part of a building complex, such as swimming pools in mixed-use leisure centres. Other buildings require testing every 3 or 5 years:

Annually:

  • Petrol stations
  • Laundrettes
  • Cinemas (front of house)
  • Saunas
  • Medical facilities in hospitals
  • Swimming pools
  • Marinas

Every 3 years:

  • Theatres
  • Leisure centres (excluding swimming pools)
  • Spa hotels
  • Caravan parks
  • Farms
  • Industrial units

Every 5 years:

  • Schools
  • Offices
  • Laboratories
  • Community centres
  • Churches
  • General areas of hospitals

What Is Included In An EICR?

An EICR Provided By Orion TS Includes Several Key Assessments:

  1. Visual assessment: The first step is a visual examination to identify obvious faults or wear, such as cracks in appliances or evidence of overheating. In older properties, outdated fuse boards may be replaced with modern MCB boards for enhanced protection.
  2. Dead and live electrical testing: This involves disconnecting the electrical installation to perform tests. Dead testing checks for poorly connected wires, while live testing ensures that the system disconnects promptly in case of a fault.
  3. Earthing and bonding checks: Evaluating the quality of earthing and bonding is crucial to ensure sufficient earth protection and reduce the risk of electrical shocks.
  4. Equipment examination: A detailed check of switches, sockets, power outlets, and light fittings is conducted to assess their condition and safety.
